In general, your site design and site content will convert to WebVista 4 without issue. However, there are a few cleanup steps you may wish to take due to new navigational design in WebVista Version 4.
Issue 1: The Course Menu appears at the left-hand side of your site by default.
You may change the Course Menu display to a more “classic” WebVista Version 3 style if you choose.
To change the Course Menu location:
- Click the Build tab.
- In the left-hand tool bar, scroll down to Designer Tools and click Manage Course.
- Click the Course Menu link in the main window.
- In General Settings, Course Menu Orientation, click the radio button to select Horizontal.
- Click the Apply Settings button in that section.
Note that this changes the view only for students.
Issue 2: Tools visible only to designers in WebVista Version 3 will be visible to students since all users share the same toolset for navigation.
Options: Remove or Hide undeveloped tools.
To avoid clutter in the Course Menu, you may remove links to tools you do not plan to use. You may add tool links back at any time.
To remove tool links:
- Click the Build tab.
- In the left-hand tool bar, scroll down to Designer Tools and click Manage Course.
- Click the Tools link in the main window.
- Click the checkbox in front of each tool you wish to remove to deselect it.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the window.
To hide tools from students:
- Click the Build tab.
- In the left-hand tool bar, scroll down to Designer Tools and click Manage Course.
- Click the Course Menu link in the main window.
- Under Order and Visibility, click the Hide Link button for each item you wish to hide.
- An (H) will appear next to each hidden tool in the Course Menu.
Issue 3: Obsolete Web Links
If you are using content that was originally created in Campus Edition and converted to WebVista 3, you may see the following types of links when you click Web Links in the Course Menu (left-hand tool bar):
!!! import problem
!!! obsolete link
!!! unimplemented tool import
Options: Delete the above links or hide the Web Links button in the Course Menu. These are “obsolete links” and it is fine to delete them.
To delete the links:
- Click the Build tab
- Click the Web Links button in the left-hand tool bar.
- Click the checkbox in front of each link you wish to delete to select it.
- Click the delete button at the bottom of the listing.
A Few Other Major Changes:
1. Use the Page Options button to:
- edit a page header or footer
- go to Power View
- customize the page layout
2. Organizer Pages are now called Folders.
3. The Add Content File, Add Organizer Page (now Create Folder), or Add URL (Add Content Link) options now display within each page instead of the left-hand tool bar.
4. Unenrolled students and student data may still appear in the grade book. This allows you to retain student information while removing the link to the site from the students’ view in My WebVista.
5. The Course Content display may truncate your folder names. We are looking into this issue.
