Faculty members and teaching assistants (TAs) can learn how develop WebVista course sites and learning activities and teach effectively with them in the Digital Media Center's (DMC) Digital Teaching Workshop and the TA Web Certification Program offered by the DMC in collaboration with other units.
Digital Teaching Workshop
This free workshop is designed to help University of Minnesota faculty and academic professional and administrative (P&A) instructors:
- develop their pedagogical and technical skills in an integrated fashion;
- design, create, implement, and evaluate well-conceived uses of technology;
- reinvigorate and/or enhance their teaching practices in a technology-rich environment; and
- improve student learning outcomes.
Sessions about how to use WebVista are included in program. For details, see the Digital Teaching Workshop page.
TA Web Certification Program
The program is offered to students in all colleges and departments as well as to students in the School of Nursing for credit as Nurs 5800 (next offered in spring 2009), and to University teaching assistants (TAs) for noncredit through Academic and Distributed Computing Services (ADCS). It is designed to help TAs and other support staff members learn how to incorporate technology-enhanced learning (TEL) strategies into courses and to create effective course Web sites. Staff from the DMC, ADCS, and the University Libraries teach participants how to develop a TEL lesson plan and to create a course Web site using WebVista, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop. Upon successful completion of the program, TAs are awarded a certificate that demonstrates their TEL and Web site production skills to the faculty members they assist.
Visit the TA Web Certification Program page on the DMC site for more information.
